Financial guidance for Taft-Hartley plans

The trustees of a Taft-Hartley plan for a Midwest union were highly focused on serving the best interest of their participants. They saw a similarity in the solutions offered by the different investment consulting firms they considered, but wanted a firm that was more independent-minded in its investment approach. As a result, they turned to the Atlanta Consulting Group.

Instead of mass-producing investment plans based on rigid corporate guidelines, we prefer to customize every investment program to the specific needs and objectives of each Taft-Hartley client we serve.

We worked closely with the plan administrator, attorney and vendors to understand their current situation and learn what they hoped to accomplish. We researched their retirement plan, investments, assets and liabilities, reviewed and revised their Investment Policy Statement, considered different investment strategies, assisted in searching for a suitable custodian, and used our size and relationships to renegotiate their fees.

Furthermore, we did a benchmark study to assist the plan attorney in fulfilling his fiduciary responsibilities, measured and reported the performance of the investments, and provided ongoing education for committee members and plan participants.

As a result, the plan is operating efficiently, their investments are well-suited to their objectives, and the trustees feel confident that they are helping their members in the manner they were seeking.
